Dr. Nadezhda “Nadia” Sabeva serves as Assistant Professor at the Department of Neuroscience at the Universidad Central del Caribe.

Dr. Sabeva received an M.Sc. in Molecular biology from Sofia University and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the College of Pharmacy, University of Kentucky. She then completed her postdoctoral training in the area of synaptic vesicle transmission and neuronal plasticity in the Department of Neuroscience at the Universidad Central del Caribe, School of Medicine.

Dr. Sabeva serves as a course director in the Basic Neuroscience course and she teaches Basic and Advanced Neuroscience, and Neuroanatomy to graduate and medical students. During this time, she works on establishing an active research program focused on the role of neuroprotection in neurodegenerative diseases.

Throughout her postdoctoral work and faculty appointments, Dr. Sabeva participated in the training and mentoring of more than 15 undergraduate and graduate students. As the Transmission Electron Microscopy Core Facility Director at UCC, she has organized workshops for graduate students and faculties to facilitate the application of the technique on the island. She believes that students’ involvement in basic science research builds a strong foundation for critical thinking and ultimately professional and life success.
