FOR TWO ADDITIONAL YEARS – The NIEF renewed its partnership with Nikon Instruments, Inc. until 2021. The collaborative agreement with the Nikon Instruments, a prestigious microscope manufacturing company, has permitted the establishment of a Nikon Center of Excellence (NCoE) at the Molecular Sciences Research Center of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR-MSRC). The Nikon Centers of Excellence (NCoE) are globally renowned as state-of-the-art facilities for advanced research imaging. Thus, the establishment of an NCoE has helped to promote biomedical research through the access of high-end microscopy technologies. As part of this agreement with Nikon Instruments, the NIEF has acquired three cutting-edge microscopes (a laser scanning confocal microscope, a multiphoton microscope, an epifluorescence microscope), a cloud-based network for imaging analysis, and provides intensive hands-on training, workshops, and seminars on the acquisition and analysis of fluorescence-based images. This year only (2019-2020), we obtained three microscopes, and one of them will be to incorporate the Super Resolution capability.
